What is a Domain Name?
Basically, a domain name is the unique name of your website. It's what people need to type into their browser to visit your website.
Domain names will usually look something like this: www.yourcompany.com. When purchasing a domain name, there are two elements of the name within your control. In the previous example -
-
"yourcompany" - which may be your company name or any word or combination of words (without spaces), and
-
".com" - which may be ".net", ".com.au", "co.uk", or some other suffix. This suffix sometimes hint's at the nature of what the website represents and/or where it is from. (ie. .com = company, .org = organisation, .com.au = company in Australia etc.)
With your chosen domain name, you can do two things - for example, we have www.fourcm.net - with it, we can:
-
We can have a website address of www.fourcm.net
-
We can have e-mail addresses ending with '@fourcm.net', such as: info@fourcm.net, prayer@fourcm.net, jane@fourcm.net, or fred.bloggs@fourcm.net
